Plan S

Plan S is a European initiative launched in 2018 requiring that research funded by participating national agencies and funders must be published in compliant open access journals or platforms, with no embargo. Plan S went into effect in 2021 and has driven a significant shift toward open access publishing in Europe. It endorses both Gold OA and Diamond OA models and has influenced funder policies worldwide.
