ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) is a 16-digit persistent identifier for individual researchers, formatted as 0000-0000-0000-0000. It disambiguates researchers with similar names and links an author to their publications across all publishers and databases. Most journals now require or strongly encourage ORCID during submission.
