Embargo Period

An embargo period is the interval during which an author may not self-archive the published or accepted version of their paper in a repository. Publishers impose embargoes (typically 6, 12, or 24 months) to protect subscription revenue. Many funders override embargoes by requiring immediate open access. Plan S in Europe mandates zero-embargo Green OA for funded research.
