DOI

A Digital Object Identifier (DOI) is a permanent, unique alphanumeric string assigned to a published article, dataset, or other digital object. DOIs are managed by the DOI Foundation and resolved via https://doi.org/. For example, 10.1038/s41586-023-06600-9 points to a specific Nature article. DOIs never change even if the publisher's URL does, making them the gold standard for citing digital research.
